POL Price Hike Criticised. 06 November 2010
Showing its grave concern over recent exorbitant increase in petroleum products prices, the Aman Ittehad has said that the raise would not only damage the pace of national economic activities but also multiply the economic woes of the general masses.
Masses are already bearing the brunt of high inflation, price hike, worsening law and order, increased power tariffs, kidnappings, suicide bombings, target killings and drone attacks.
“The government through such unjustified decisions like its predecessors seems oblivious to the plight and sufferings of the poor. Increased economic problems particularly spiralling prices of items of daily use, high inflation, massive corruption, billions of rupees worth of bank loans written off and unemployment are the offshoot of the government’s wrong priorities,” said a resolution passed during a special meeting of the Aman Ittehad’s associates here.
A large number of the Aman Ittehad’s associates attended a meeting to discuss the overall situation being faced by citizens particularly in the aftermath of recent floods with special reference to mountainous areas. Access here is still almost non-existent and the approaching is set to multiply their problems.
The resolution asked the government to take urgent action as its continuous criminal indifference towards issues that will have serious consequences. Turning a blind eye to the massive loot and plunder and the stashing away of huge funds minted through corruption or kickbacks is further aggravating the grave economic situation. “People have lost their trust in the ruling class as they have always deceived them through hollow slogans”, explained the resolution.
In order to give some relief to the hard-hit masses, it demanded of the government should immediately withdraw increase in petroleum prices so that some relief can be given to the poor.
